When I used to work in the gallery (over a year ago now!) I always used to book my birthday off - you know, it's just such an absolute nightmare if you have a dull day at work on the best day of the year (June 5th!). This year and last have been a complete, absolute revelation, thanks to the girls in the Frock office.
First of all the weather was stunning, wasn't it? DB (Dearly Beloved for you newbies!) did my bucks fizz-and-smoked-salmon-and-scrambled-eggs-in-bed and PRESENTS as usual and I lolled into work a little bit late - well that day it was allowed! Now in a boring old office you might have a cake at half past 4. Not at Frock! Rae and Carol had got together a WHOLE table of plate after plate of cakes! Lots of jam tarts, baby angel cakes, petit fours, and remember iced gems? - those too... and thanks for ALL your lovely messages and cards. Wow!
Work zipped past – especially after a picnic lunch on the lawn! DB was coming to pick us all up for a girlie night in town with my little bro and Miles to keep him company - and somehow, when we went in, an ab-sol-utely ENORMOUS cake had appeared on my desk, but there was something that just didn't seem quite right about it....hmmmm.... Anyway, I blew out the candles, and broke off some of the icing - that tasted yummy enough, but then I realised - the cake was just one of Carol's old hatboxes!
Without wasting a minute, (or any of the icing) I ripped open the lid, and guess what was inside - no, not a hat...better....
Fantastic! My pinky, purple fairy shoes - a lush, lush, lush, adjustable sling back, with a bow that I think looks like an azure butterfly! They certainly helped me fly away as we lit up London on the best day of the year!
