Thursday brought me and my fantastic team to The Royal Garden Hotel Kensington for the Startups Awards 2008. With such a big choice, it was a struggle to know what to wear but I couldn't resist the ‘Belle Dress’ from my favourite new supplier Darling. The burgundy taffeta with embroidered dots was perfect – sophisticated but striking and I had lots of compliments. We were up for Business Plan of the Year and the day started with a lovely champagne reception. The awards were hosted by Sky news presenter Adrienne Lawler who tickled us with some very amusing anecdotes! We were sat on a table with the fab guys from Concert Live who picked up the award for Innovative Business of the Year…they specialise in bringing recorded music from live gigs to the market and are based in Brixton – my old stomping ground! Sadly we were pipped to the post by the boys at Ballz.com for the prize but had a wonderful day meeting some fantastic people from the best start up businesses in the country. I was very inspired talking to Warren and David from A Suit That Fits who scooped Online Business of the Year and Young Entrepreneur of the Year…These boys can make you a bespoke suit for a fraction of the price of Saville Row...check out their website - they did this fantastic campaign where they sent a guy around London in a painted body SUIT! I had a word with Corinne but she doesn’t seem to be up for wearing a painted Frock around the streets of Farnham unfortunately!

It was a wonderful day and so fabulous to be part of such prestigious awards…fingers crossed for next year!
